Adult Basic Education
ATC offers comprehensive Adult Education services, including preparation and testing for the General Education Development (GED) diploma. Personalized Guided Instructional Support is provided for all ATC students as they master the challenges of our industry standards-based curricula and earn college certificates and diplomas. Employability skills certification programs are also supported.
This is a growing career field for high-energy people who love to plan, produce and serve creative meals. The culinary program blends classroom, training kitchen and industry work experience to prepare students for jobs and advanced training. Students earn industry and university certifications and the employment advantage of completing externships in Kotzebue’s major commercial kitchens.
Our Construction Trades program provides students with the carpentry skills necessary to obtain entry-level positions in Alaska’s growing building industry. Students learn construction fundamentals, utilizing new building techniques, materials and processes. The program incorporates the advances in cold-climate building technology vital to Alaska’s construction industry.
Educators have a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to foster students and create leaders for the future. Students study educational theory, gain substantial experience working in classrooms, and qualify for careers as a teacher assistant or classroom teacher. Associate and bachelor’s degrees can be completed in Kotzebue. We are committed to developing the next generation of Alaska’s educators.
Health care students prepare for challenging careers in one of the fastest growing fields worldwide; they improve the quality of life for the people in their care. Students have the opportunity to qualify as a Certified Nurse Aide, licensed by the State of Alaska. Through classroom, practical, and clinical training, they earn college credit transferable to university nursing degree programs.
Process Technologists monitor and control industry equipment and processes for Alaska employers in the oil and gas, mining, power generation industries. Individuals who like technology, science and mathematics are drawn to this pathway. Students can earn college credit toward an AAS degree offered in Kotzebue through Alaska Technical Center and the University of Alaska.
ATC provides short-term on-demand training for employers. Courses are scheduled at the convenience of clients, and include instruction in the Microsoft Office suite, customer service, office procedures, information management, bookkeeping and accounting. In addition, our Savakturuq program provides a standards-based soft skills curriculum developed with input from over 75 Alaska employers.
